I’m not a meat lover but every now and then I appreciate some barbecue meat; my idea of a good barbecue serving is ample portion of crunchy(it’s not exactly crunchy but some sort of hardness from the roasting) on the outside, moist on the inside well salted low fat meat; when it is spiced up that’s a bonus!
Every now and then I asked about and try out different barbecue spots, I have been to Mkulima, Chaga grill, Mr Price, Hugo and recently Chaga Bite. Between checking out these spots, I was introduced to ‘Kwa Mambo’ officially know as Njiapanda pub. The place is like walking into someone’s backyard (the word I want to use here is the swahili word, Uwani; if you have lived in Tanga or Magomeni, you may have an idea). I keep going back.
They only roast goat meat which is accompanied with plantain and a plate of local salad. I keep going back because they serve generous portions at the best price in town; the meat is without spices, fairly moist and well roasted though it is somewhat lacking in salt. And it is away from the crowd of the town, a place that you can casually sit with a group and chomp the ribs or legs or whatever part you order. Being off town though means, it is a little tasking to get there, if you use dala-dala from town; you have to get off , Maduka ya juu stop and walk down the dusty road. It has been hard for me to give the directions so thank me for finally introducing it to foursquare and mapping it with google maps, here is the link:-) http://goo.gl/maps/YStwv
Caution: Because they lack formal training and standards, the meat isn’t always good, I have had days in which I was disappointed so in those days we would also make an order of liver.
I’m still looking-out for great meat; which is the best barbecue meat (not pork) in Moshi town, any suggestions?
